What Career Center program did you participate in?

CDEV 145: Internship Course

What organization did you work with?

Symbol Design

What did you do at your internship?

I was the Project Manager & Business Development Intern. My tasks included managing a team of interns, project managing a large 4-day art show called Blend, creating content (photos, videos, and writing) for
promotion, and helping with various projects they worked on for other companies. Main Projects: Blend, 4-day art show and helped with Portland Public Schools’ commencement brochures.

What is your biggest takeaway from your internship?

I learned a lot about communication and the importance of clear instructions for assignments. Now I feel more confident to ask more questions when instructions or deadlines aren’t clear, and I feel more
confident when assigning tasks to coworkers that I can give proper information to best communicate something.

How is this internship connected to your career goals and/or future aspirations?

I’ve been really trying to figure out my career plans for the last few months, and I think I have a direction now. This internship helped me by potentially offering me a job as the project manager for Symbol Design when I
graduate next May. I learned what I need to work on and that I enjoy project management, so I would be interested in working for them part-time. During the last few months, I also got really interested in science and space writing. I got a great opportunity offered to me this summer to join Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum as a marketing intern, writing articles to their website with my name on them and creating content for their social media platforms. These opportunities with Symbol Design and Evergreen Museum have given me great insight into my future career goals and have made me more interested in both of these fields.
