What three words would you use to describe L&C?
Challenging, vibrant and inspiring
What Career Center program did you participate in?
CDEV 145: Internship Course
What organization did you work with?
KBOO Community Radio
What did you do at your internship?
At KBOO Community Radio I was a Newsroom intern which meant that I was helping to produce the daily evening news. This consisted of editing audio, writing readers for the live broadcast, and recording and editing my
own stories. I also got to interview people and produced several of my own 15 minute interview pieces for the “News in Depth” segment of the KBOO evening news. During my time at KBOO I got to learn how to anchor a live broadcast and also how to produce the evening news.
What is your biggest takeaway from your internship?
My biggest takeaway is that I really love to interview people and edit audio to put together my own longform piece. I was so grateful to get to try this out because it is something I always thought I might enjoy. The internship
taught me a lot about what kind of environment I work best in and what my strengths and weaknesses are.
How is this internship connected to your career goals and/or future aspirations?
For a long time I have been interested in journalism and radio but didn’t really know how it functioned on a day to day basis. It was really cool to see how an organization produces content and how it operates from the inside.
This internship gave me insight into what skills I have that could be useful in this industry. For example, I now know I am a great interviewer and audio editor and can advertise these skills to new jobs that I apply for.
