Exploratory, creative, holistic.
What Career Center program did you participate in?
CDEV 145: Internship Course
What organization did you work with?
Portland Art Museum
What did you do at your internship?
At this internship with the Portland Art Museum, my main responsibility was to provide tours to K-12 school groups throughout the school year. I mainly focused on helping students engage in new ways instead of the traditional lecture-based model. Other responsibilities included attending youth events for the museum, and designing a craft, and on the day of events, I was responsible for facilitating the art-making.
What is your biggest takeaway from your internship?
My biggest takeaway is that education comes in so many different forms. Additionally, I learned about the importance of the arts and how the Portland community works to keep arts education alive.
How is this internship connected to your career goals and/or future aspirations?
Initially, I did this internship because of the interactions I have had with children– I have always wanted to be a teacher or educator of sorts. Although that still is very true, I have been exposed to different career options through the museum such as art handling and curation.
